Clock Tower
The Historical Clock Tower is located near the city harbour. It was built in 1897 by an Italian, Emili Vitali - tradesman and honorary consul of the time. There is a clock on each of the four sides of the tower, which was built from the local Ayvalık stone. The square shaped tower narrows slightly as it rises. The public fountain beneath was built in 1889 by a wealthy Jewish resident of the town called Halyo. The Clock tower now acts as one of the symbols of Canakkale .
Vitalis who died in Nice, France, wanted a watersystemand a clock tower to be built in Canakkale with his wealth amounting to 10,000 French goldpieces.
Aynalı Bazaar
Being one of the most important touristic places of Çanakkale, Aynalı Bazaar is located in the city center, near Çarşı Street.
In 1890, one of the worthy persons of Jewish community, Eliyau Hallio had this bazaar built and at the entrance, his epitaph can be seen. On the epitaph, writes “Based on Jewish calendar, this bazaar was built in year 5650, by Eliyau Hallio, to honor 14th anniversary of Sultan Abdulhamid II’s sultanate” in Ottoman and Hebrew languages.
Ceramics Museum
The building, which was built as Turkish bath in 1905 in the city center of Çanakkale, has been restored by the Municipality of Çanakkale in 2013 as “Ceramics Museum”. Ceramics Museum is located in Cevatpaşa district on Kaya Street and important ceramics artworks are exhibited in the museum. It can be noted that the old structure of the building has been reserved during the restoration and in the new museum building, ceramics related national and international symposiums, workshops and exhibitions are organized.
The places that used to be used as cold, warm and hot halls are now provide service as the entrance to the museum, resting hall and information and exhibition hall.
Çimenlik Castle
Çimenlik Castle (i.e. the Meadow Castle), also known as Kale-i Sultaniye, was build in the 15th century on the orders of Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror. The construction of the fortress on the Asian shore of the Dardanelles took two years to complete, from 1461 to 1462. Building materials were obtained from the ancient city of Abydos and other sites. At the same time, Kilitbahir Fortress was erected on the European shore of the strait.
Two mosques - Fatih Camii and Abdulaziz Camii - stand in the inner courtyard of the fortress. They bear the names of the Ottoman sultans who ordered their construction.
The Gallery of Photos and Paintings
The Gallery of Photos and Paintings operates in the building erected in 1927, in the early-republican style. Originally it housed the headquarters of the fortress and was converted into the gallery building in 1982. Today, on the ground floor there is an exhibition of sea mines, on the first floor - photos, uniforms, weapons, and flags from the First World War, as well as a mock-up of the Dardanelles. On the second floor, the sketches and paintings by military painter Mehmet Ali Laga are on display.
Nusret Mine Ship
Nusret (Eng. 'the help of God') was a naval ship of the Ottoman Navy, which served as a minelayer during the Gallipoli Campaign, and later fulfilled various roles in the Turkish Navy.
In 2002 the wreck of Nusret was acquired by the Municipality of Tarsus, Mersin Province for reconstruction ashore as a museum ship, opened in 2008.
A replica Nusret has been built by the Gölcük Naval Shipyard to be displayed in Çanakkale by the shore of the Narrows of the Dardanelles along with the types of mines that it laid in World War I. In March 2011 this Nusret was commissioned into the Turkish Navy as the museum ship N-16.
Trojan Horse from the Movie Troy (donated by Warner Bros.)
The Movie-famous Trojan Horse is one of the biggest attractions of Canakkale city. It was actually used in the 2004 film Troy starring Brad Pitt and after the filming of the movie the wooden horse was donated to the city of Çanakkale.
Çanakkale City Museum
Displays various antiques and items of the city's history. The museum is near the shopping street and naval museum.
